Makion vs the rest

How Makion compares

An honest comparison: where the others stop, Makion works.

Out of the box, chat AIs only edit text. Wire them to SAP via MCP and they can write and activate, but with no role boundaries, no approval gate, no audit trail. Full access or nothing. You shuttle code back and forth between a chat window and SAP GUI / Eclipse; half the job is the clipboard. SAP's own tooling routes and meters model choice through SAP (AI Units): the commercial model has been live since June 2026 and the free promotion runs out at the end of September 2026, so every agentic run is metered. And SAP scopes Joule for Developers to S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2021+.

A governance layer on top

Makion is not a bet against SAP's roadmap.

Makion runs its own SAP connector over the official ADT interface, so it works on any SAP that exposes ADT: S/4HANA (all releases) and NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.40+, including on-prem ECC on those releases, reaching systems SAP's cloud-gated tooling can't. It's version-agnostic: no release lock, it uses whatever ADT serves. We've verified Makion on S/4HANA (A4H); other releases run on the same ADT mechanism, and we confirm reach with you at pilot. Makion stays the governance layer (roles, an approval gate, a central audit log and team standards) that SAP's own tooling still lacks.

Questions

Does Makion work on ECC and NetWeaver 7.x?

Makion talks to SAP over the official ADT interface, which exists on NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.40 and up — so there is no release lock in the design, and S/4HANA of any release is covered as well. We have verified Makion on S/4HANA (A4H); we have not run it on every older release, so we confirm reach on your own system during the pilot, before you pay anything. For comparison: SAP offers Joule for Developers for S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2021+.

We already pay for Kiro or Amazon Q. Why add Makion?

Because those solve reach, and reach is now the easy part. Point any capable agent at an ADT MCP and it can read, write and activate — with no role boundaries, no approval gate and no audit trail, on whichever laptop it happens to run. Makion is everything after the connection: per-role tool allow-lists, a two-person gate on anything irreversible, a server-side audit log, your team's standards applied on every run, specs versioned in the app, and a reuse check before new code is written. It isn't a better autocomplete — it's the governed environment and the project memory those tools don't have.

How is Makion different from wiring a coding agent to the ADT MCP myself?

A DIY ADT MCP gives an agent read / write / activate with no role boundaries: all-or-nothing. Makion adds the governance: per-role read / write tool allow-lists, a two-person gate with a ship queue, a server-side audit log, team standards in a methodology console, a multi-user server isolated per developer and project, and specs stored and versioned in the app.

How does billing compare?

SAP's AI is billed per token in SAP AI Units — metered per run. Copilot or Cursor is a separate per-tool subscription. Makion uses your own AI account: your API key or subscription, where the provider allows. Makion doesn't sell tokens and doesn't charge for model usage.
